Planned Parenthood ad slams McCain

The Planned Parenthood Action Fund has just released an ad that targets John McCain, specifically focusing on his position on birth control. For the spot, the group recycled a bit of footage the McCain campaign surely would have preferred not to see again: the Arizona senator looking nervous, and finally declining to answer, when asked a question about insurance companies that will cover Viagra but not birth control. (The ad itself can be seen below.)

As Politico's Ben Smith points out, McCain has previously voted against requiring insurance companies to match the coverage they provide for Viagra with coverage for birth control. And, he says, this is the first ad from a feminist group specifically targeting McCain this cycle.

The spot is running in some potentially key swing states; Smith reports that it will be shown in Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, New Mexico, Ohio, Wisconsin and Washington, D.C.
