Sarah Palin to die for in swimsuit

I can't help thinking of Nicole Kidman's movie character.

Sarah Palin has been compared to that Miss Teen South Carolina contestant, which is unfair. She has been compared to a Reese Witherspoon "lovable girl next door" movie personality. Also unfair.

And while I am not -- repeat, not -- suggesting she can be compared to the homicidal pedophile character played by Nicole Kidman in "To Die For" (a movie loosely based on a true story about high school teacher Pamela Smart, who persuaded a male student to murder her husband), there is something about this newly discovered, old video clip of Palin during the swimsuit portion of a beauty contest, along with her old sportscaster clips, that just screams, "I am special and deserve to be on television!"

Which is ironic, of course, given that the McCain folks are working very hard to keep her off television, and for the same reasons producers in the movie were trying to keep Kidman off-screen: Though superficially strong on the tube, Palin is oblivious to how her underlying personality shines through on the medium. Much as it does in this short, revealing clip of Kidman's character, Suzanne Stone Maretto, from the movie.
