Senate votes yes on bailout

The vote came a couple hours later than scheduled, but as expected, the Senate has voted in favor of the latest iteration of the bailout plan. Sixty votes were needed for passage; 74 senators voted in favor of the plan, and 25 voted against. (Sen. Ted Kennedy was the no-show.)

The bill is now off to the House of Representatives, where it faces a more uncertain future. The House, which rejected an earlier version of the proposal on Monday, is expected to vote on it Friday.

John McCain, Barack Obama and Joe Biden all voted in favor of the bailout, which passed along essentially bipartisan lines. Thirty-nine Democrats voted yea, along with 34 Republicans and Sen. Joe Lieberman, who caucuses with the Democrats. Fifteen Republicans voted no, as did nine Democrats and Sen. Bernie Sanders, who caucuses with the Democrats.
