Live-blogging the debate, Part 2

Sarah Palin delivers the most predictable line of the night.

Published October 3, 2008 1:22AM (EDT)

Did anyone else see Sarah Palin's line about not really caring about what Joe Biden or Gwen Ifill have to say, and speaking directly to the American people, coming from a mile away? Maybe that was a good line at one point, but now, it's just so clichéd and so predictable -- can it really work? For the sake of what little idealism I still have remaining about humanity, I hope not.

Biden's having a good night, on the other hand. He makes for a nice contrast on the Democratic ticket, as he really does the kind of hard-hitting stuff that Barack Obama steered away from in the last debate. Having seen the response to Obama's performance, which seems to have made him come off as cool, calm and presidential, I think this sort of combination is likely to serve the Democrats well.
