Winners and losers

Those who are better or worse off following this long, amazing presidential campaign.

It's time for a list of winners and losers from this amazing, inspiring, tiring, two-year-long presidential race. There are many politicians in here, of course, but also members of the media, political advisors and consultants, some people who got pulled into the vortex of the campaign for various reasons and even a few celebrities of note.

And while I am certain I have forgotten many candidates worthy of inclusion on the lists below, and that some selections could arguably be moved from one list to the other -- and feel free to add your own entries in the comments section -- I think this makes for a good start.

Winners: Barack Obama and Joe Biden, of course, but also … Bill Burton, Chelsea Clinton, Hillary Clinton, James Clyburn, Stephen Colbert, Katie Couric, Tom Daschle, Matt Dowd, Elizabeth Edwards, Rahm Emanuel (back again, following 2006), Jon Favreau (the Obama speechwriter, not the actor), Tina Fey and her "SNL" confederates, David Frum, the "Goliath Davids" (Axelrod, Plouffe), Kay Hagan, Chuck Hagel, Mike Huckabee, Arianna Huffington, Jesse Jackson Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Caroline and Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Rachel Maddow, Claire McCaskill, Michelle Obama and the real Obama girls (Malia and Sasha, that is), Keith Olbermann, Kathleen Parker, Colin Powell, Eugene Robinson, Mitt Romney, Bob Schieffer, Steve Schmidt, Chuck Schumer (also in a repeat of 2006), David Shuster, Nate Silver, Sarah Silverman, Patti Solis Doyle (after initially being fated for the Loser List), Chuck Todd, Jeffrey Toobin, the Udall cousins, Chris Van Hollen, Nicolle Wallace, Will.i.am and Oprah Winfrey.

Losers: John McCain and Sarah Palin, naturally, but also … Michele Bachmann, Fred Barnes, Tucker Bounds, Tom Brokaw, Bill Clinton, Jerome Corsi, Larry Craig, Rick Davis, Liddy Dole, John Edwards, Vito Fossella, Charlie Gibson, Rudy Giuliani, Lindsey Graham, John Hagee, Sean Hannity, Sean Hannity again (for good measure), Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Jesse Jackson, Joe the Plumber, Charles Krauthammer, Joe Lieberman, Rush Limbaugh, John Murtha, the phony and self-promoting Obama Girl, Ron Paul, Mark Penn, Nancy Pfotenauer, Bill Richardson, Larry Sinclair, Phil Singer, George Stephanopoulos, Ted Stevens, Tom Tancredo, Lazy Fred Thompson, Hank Williams Jr. and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
