Give this to Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich: The man is persistent. Facing serious legal trouble, including the charge that he attempted to sell President-elect Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat, and knowing that Democratic leaders have threatened not to seat anyone he appoints to the post, the governor apparently intends to go ahead anyway.
The Chicago Tribune reports that Blagojevich is expected to announce, Tuesday afternoon, that he'll be appointing former state Attorney General Roland Burris to Obama's seat. "Shortly after Obama's Nov. 4 victory, Burris made known his interest in an appointment to the Senate but was never seriously considered, according to Blagojevich insiders," the paper says. "But in the days following Blagojevich's arrest, and despite questions over the taint of a Senate appointment, Burris stepped up his efforts to win the governor's support."
