Timothy Geithner didn't have an easy day Wednesday; the Treasury secretary-designate had a rough confirmation hearing, as Republicans pressed him on his failure to pay self-employment taxes when they were due. But his nomination will now go to the full Senate for a vote anyway.
The Senate Finance Committee voted overwhelmingly in favor of Geithner Thursday morning. 18 Senators backed his nomination, while only five -- all Republicans -- voted against him. The no votes came from Iowa's Charles Grassley, the committee's ranking member, Kentucky's Jim Bunning, Wyoming's Michael Enzi, Arizona's Jon Kyl and Kansas' Pat Roberts.
