On Friday, the Democratic National Committee released its first ad since President Obama's inauguration. They came out swinging.
The spot's targeted at South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, a Republican who seems to be eyeing a bid for his party's 2012 presidential nomination and whose vocal opposition to the stimulus hasn't been hurting that perception, or his chances.
The ad begins with the narrator noting South Carolina's troubled economy -- it currently has the second-worst unemployment rate in the nation -- and then accusing Sanford of playing politics with the stimulus.
At Hot Air, conservative blogger Allahpundit suggests that the DNC is attacking Sanford now because they're scared of his potential presidential run. That seems like an overly optimistic view. Sure, the DNC probably doesn't mind the opportunity to get in an early shot, but this is about using him as a proxy for other anti-stimulus campaigners.
The DNC says the ad will be running in Columbia, S.C. for "at least" a week, and possibly more.
