Men's Health has published a 2,100-word profile of Rep. Aaron Schock, R-Ill., the 29-year-old "fittest man in Congress." Pictures here.
But more than the pictures (everyone had already seen Schock shirtless), what caught our eye was the announcement that the congressman is teaming up with the magazine for a "Fit for Life Summer Challenge" weight loss program.
"I’m challenging you -- and all Americans -- to sign up for an easy weight-loss plan than can help you drop 10, 20, even 30 pounds or more by Labor Day and get in the best shape of your life," writes Schock in a letter to readers.
The program, which stresses healthy eating and exercise, sounds an awful lot like Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" anti-obesity campaign -- the one for which she's been taking flak from the right for months.
Here's Sarah Palin last November:
"Take her anti-obesity thing that she is on. She is on this kick, right. What she is telling us is she cannot trust parents to make decisions for their own children, for their own families in what we should eat. ... Just leave us alone, get off our back."
"This is very consistent with where the hard left is coming from. For them, government is the answer to every problem."
"Get away from my french fries, Mrs. Obama. First politician that comes up to me with a carrot stick, I've got a place for it. And it's not in my tummy."
Schock, for his part, praises Michelle Obama in the Men's Health profile. But is he now in for a similar onslaught from conservatives? We doubt it, but stay tuned ...
