Salon Nominated as "Cool Site Of The Year" SAN FRANCISCO, CA, AUGUST 16, 1996 | SALON, the acclaimed Webzine of books, arts and ideas, has been nominated for "Cool Site of the Year," sponsored by People (Magazine) Online and InfiNet. SALON's art director Mignon Khargie and associate art director Elizabeth Kairys were nominated as "Cool Web Designers of the Year." The "Cool Site of the Year," an outgrowth of the Internet's original "Cool Site of the Day," is regarded as the most prestigious award of its kind in the fast growing field of Web publishing. SALON is one of five nominees for the award, to be presented in New York City on October 3. Sponsored by Adobe Systems, Apple Computer and Borders Books & Music, SALON has attracted a growing number of readers (49% female) with a lively mix of news, reviews, interviews, essays, and a "Table Talk" conversation area which is one of the most heavily attended on the Web. Recent attractions include a regular political column by campaign guru James Carville and an exclusive online diary from best-selling author Anne Rice. SALON's editor-in-chief is David Talbot, recently named by Newsweek as one of the "50 people who matter most on the Internet." Mignon Khargie has won more than 30 awards from the Society of Newspaper Design and other print media. Elizabeth Kairys, the former art director at California Lawyer, has won more than a dozen magazine design awards. - - - - - - - - - - - -
