New Column by Camille Paglia Debuts in Salon SAN FRANCISCO, CA, JANUARY 9, 1997 | Seeking to push the boundaries of dialogue on the Internet, four leading World Wide Web sites have joined forces to explore some of the major issues confronting the Web and its relationship to society. Intellectual flame-thrower Camille Paglia launches a new column in SALON on Monday, January 13, editor David Talbot announced today. Paglia is the author of three bestselling books: "Sexual Personae" (1990), "Sex, Art and American Culture" (1992), and "Vamps & Tramps" (1994). "We're excited about providing Camille Paglia a regular forum on the Internet -- a medium that is perfectly suited for her slashing and uncompromising style," said Talbot. "Paglia cuts through encrusted thinking on the right, left and center." Paglia, whose column will appear biweekly, joins a colorful lineup of SALON contributors, including James Carville, Anne Lamott, Ian Shoales and Cintra Wilson. Paglia has written several features for SALON, including a passionate defense of TV talk shows that appeared in the Web site's debut issue and a controversial critique of Hillary Clinton ("The First Drag Queen"). Her writing has appeared in newspapers and magazines all over the world, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, the London Sunday Times, People, Esquire and The New Republic. A Professor of Humanities at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Paglia is at work on her next book. SALON was recently selected as the number one Web site of 1996 by Time magazine. - - - - - - - - - - - -
