Salon Signs Worldwide Agreement With United Feature Syndicate to Distribute Content to Newspapers SAN FRANCISCO, CA, MAY 6, 1997 | Salon Internet, Inc. announced today the signing of an exclusive syndication agreement with United Feature Syndicate to distribute its content to newspapers for print and online editions. This marks one of the Internet's first cases of original content developed for the Web being distributed in traditional print forms. Salon Magazine has been widely recognized for its editorial excellence and design and recently won Time Magazine's "Best Web Site of 1996" award and Advertising Age's "Best Online Magazine of the Year" award. United Feature Syndicate is part of United Media, the international information and entertainment company that develops and markets 150 comic strips, columns, editorial cartoons, graphics and illustrations worldwide through its two syndicates, United Feature Syndicate and Newspaper Enterprise Association. United Feature Syndicate currently represents such popular properties as Peanuts, Dilbert, Nancy, Marmaduke, Miss Manners, Jack Anderson and The New Republic, among others. "We're excited to be working with United Feature Syndicate to introduce more readers to Salon 'off the Web.' United Feature Syndicate's relationships with the leading newspapers around the world and their online newspaper editions should propel Salon to a new level of awareness," said Michael O'Donnell, President and Publisher of Salon. Salon's agreement with United Feature Syndicate includes the syndication of content in print as well as online versions of newspapers worldwide. As part of this agreement, the Salon Web address will be featured in articles syndicated to print and hyper-links to the Salon home page will be included in all articles syndicated on the Web. "We recognized the unique editorial quality of Salon's regular columnists and original essays and feel this content translates effectively to print," said Diana Loevy, Vice President and Editorial Director for United Feature Syndicate. "Through a coordinated effort with United Feature Syndicate, newspaper editors around the world will be updated as to Salon's editorial calendar and be able to incorporate these features into their print or online publications."
