Salon Magazine Launches "Silicon Follies": A Serial Comedy about Work, Love and War in Silicon Valley SAN FRANCISCO, CA, MARCH 16, 1999 | On March 18, Salon Magazine will launch "Silicon Follies," a fictional serial by Thomas Scoville about life in Silicon Valley. In the tradition of Armistead Maupin's "Tales of the City," "Silicon Follies" follows six characters as they become, or attempt to become, masters of their domains. Meet Barry Dominic, head of TeraMemory, who commutes in a MIG-21 and whose favorite book is Sun Tzu's "The Art of War." Or Steve Hall, who answers his phone "Steve's hack shack" and erases corporate databases with a push of a button. Two new episodes will run each week, every Monday and Thursday, beginning March 18. The serial is set for an initial six-month run of fifty installments. The author, Thomas Scoville, has worked in the trenches of the infotech war in Silicon Valley for fifteen years and is the creator of "The Silicon Valley Tarot" and author of a number of popular essays on digital culture. Salon Magazine, a publication of Salon Internet, Inc., is a daily original content site covering news, technology, entertainment, books, parenting, sex, travel and health.
