About Jane Hamilton

When Jane Hamilton received her B.A. in English in Northfield, Minn. in 1979, she planned on driving to a friend's apple orchard in Rochester Wisc., for a few days, then continuing on to New York. She never made it to New York. Instead she stayed, and lives there today with her two children.

After publishing a couple short stories in Harper's, she went on to write critically acclaimed "The Book of Ruth," which received a PEN/Hemingway Foundation award in 1989. She published her second novel, "A Map of the World," in 1994.
