OFFICIAL RULES

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER. CONTEST IS OPEN ONLY TO LEGAL UNITED STATES RESIDENTS. The Contest is sponsored by Salon Internet, Inc., World Wide Chocolates and American Airlines ("Sponsors").

ELIGIBILITY: Contest is offered only within the 50 United States. Contest is open to all persons who are legal residents of the United States and are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry. Employees, officers, and directors of Sponsors, their parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion, and fulfillment agencies, and legal advisors, their immediate family members and persons living in their same household, are not eligible to participate in the Contest. Void where prohibited. All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply.

HOW TO ENTER: Use the official entry form located at http://www.salonmagazine.com/promo/1998/04/belgium/enter.html Entry can also be made by sending a 4x5 card to Belgium Bound, Salon Magazine, 706 Mission Street, San Francisco,CA 94103 and must be received no later than May 10, 1998 at 6pm PST. One entry per person/per household/e-mail address.

PRIZE TERMS AND CONDITIONS: One winner will be selected to win roundtrip airfare for two people to Brussels, Belgium, 5 nights stay at Hotel Maison du Dragon and a tour package to the Callebaut chocolate manufacturing facility. The total package is valued at $3,688.00. Travellers are responsible for all ground transportation, passport/visa requirements and airport taxes & fees. Grand Prize is valid for travel through May 10, 1999. Extensions will not be granted. Accommodations are for (1) Double Room. Prizes are non-transferable, non-replaceable, and cannot be redeemed for cash, bartered or sold. The total value for the daily chocolate drawings is $770.00.

AMERICAN AIRLINES TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

  • Travel must originate and terminate in the American Airlines city nearest your city of residence; on direct service. Direct service is service on a published American Airlines route. Backtracking is not permitted (Backtracking occurs when any segment of a trip alters the course so that the route is not in the direction of the destination.) Alaska Interchange flights are specifically excluded.

  • International Travel: International destinations may require a nominal, additional federal inspection fee to be collected at the time of ticketing. Any customs fees or security fees for international travel are the responsibility of the prize winner. Passengers must have proper documents of international travel.

  • Air Transportation must be on American Airlines/American Eagle only.

  • TAC Certificates and tickets are not transferable or refundable and may not be sold for cash or other considerations.

  • Blackout dates are subject to change without notice.

  • Overnight lodging in route, if necessary, is at the expense of the traveler.

  • Minors must be accompanied on the flight by a parent or guardian.

  • A service charge of $50.00 per ticket will be assessed if a ticket is re-issued due to a voluntary change of itinerary.

  • A check of $50.00 made payable to American Airlines must accompany each request for ticket re-issuance.

  • Lost tickets or TAC Certificates will not be replaced under any circumstances.

  • No substitute prize will be awarded if the prize winner is unable or unwilling to use the tickets issued by American Airlines, and no extension of the validity date will be permitted. The companion(s) of this prize must accompany the prize winner on all segments.

  • For coach class winners desiring to upgrade to first class, you may do so by paying the difference between the first class fare and the value of the ticket you have won . Ask the agent to refer to STAR "PTUPG" for details.

  • If American Airlines/American Eagle, for any reason, discontinues service to/from any destination before prize winner's date of travel, the prize winner may select an alternate American Airlines/American Eagle destination of equal value once authorized by an American Airlines representative.

    SELECTION OF WINNER: Winners will be selected from all eligible entries and will be drawn on May 10, 1998. The winner will be notified by phone and e-mail. The winner will have 14 days from notification to accept the prize. Sponsors are not responsible for and shall not be liable for late, lost, misdirected, or unsuccessful efforts to notify winner. By entering, participants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of the judges, which shall be final. Sponsors, agents and representatives of Sponsors, their parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion, and fulfillment agencies, and legal advisors, are not responsible for and shall not be liable for: (i) late, lost, delayed, damaged, misdirected, incomplete, illegible, unintelligible, or postage-due entries; (ii) any condition caused by events beyond the control of the Sponsors that may cause the Contest to be disrupted or corrupted; (iii) any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising in connection with or as a result of the prize, or acceptance, possession, or use of the prize, or from participation in the Contest; or (iv) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Contest. Salon reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to suspend or cancel this Contest at any time. By participating in the Contest, participants agree to release and hold Sponsors and the employees, officers, directors, shareholders, agents, representatives of Sponsors, their parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising, promotion, and fulfillment agencies, and legal advisors, harmless from any and all losses, damages, rights, claims and actions of any kind in connection with the Contest or resulting from acceptance, possession, or use of any prize, including without limitation, personal injury, death, and property damage, and claims based on content of the story, including but not limited to publicity rights, copyright infringement, defamation, or invasion of privacy.

    WINNERS LIST AND OFFICIAL RULES: To obtain the names of the Contest winners, send a letter requesting a winners list for Belgium Bound, along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Salon Magazine,706 Mission Street, 2nd Floor, San Francisco, CA 94103. This request must be received by May 8, 1998.
