Write your own Brilliant Career!
Salon.com and Lexus are partners in celebrating the most interesting and influential people of our time in Salon's Brilliant Careers. Salon and Lexus have been paying tribute to the most influential, provocative and groundbreaking figures, since the fall 1998. Now we want to know: Who did we miss?

Yes, this is your chance to wax eloquent about your favorite celebrity or icon and share with the world why he or she is a living legend. The winning essay will be published as an original Salon Brilliant Career and receive a $500 cash prize. As if the rewards of being published and paid for it weren't enough, we'll also invite the author and a guest to come to San Francisco -- on us! -- to attend our Brilliant Careers Event! There you will receive your award and enjoy fame and fun in style! How's that for a brilliant idea?

So, let's hear it! You may contribute more than once. Read on to enter and view the Official Rules.

The Grand Prize winner will receive a $500 prize for his or her published piece and a trip for two to Salon.com's Brilliant Careers Event in San Francisco, Oct. 21, 1999. The trip will include two nights' accommodations in San Francisco.

It's easy to enter and you may submit more than one Brilliant Career!

Write an essay of 1,000 words or less, scan the list of fame to make sure yours is an original and enter to win. On Sept. 10, 1999, the Salon editors will select the most outstanding and brilliant piece!

You must be 18 years or older to enter the contest. E-mail your submission to brilliantcareers@salon.com, making sure to put "Brilliant Careers Essay" in the subject line. Essays MUST BE included in the body of the e-mail, along with the author's name, mailing address, phone and e-mail address. No attachments will be accepted. No phone inquiries please. ALL ENTRIES, WHETHER POSTAL OR ELECTRONIC, MUST BE RECEIVED BY SEPT. 3, 1999.

See Offical Rules for complete contest requirements.
