As Halloween approaches, Transylvania traditionally comes alive with the region's folklore of werewolves, vampires and the real-life Vlad the Impaler. This week, the area came alive with another local terror -- a nude woman who was caught running around a block of apartments, singing at the top of her voice.
According to news sources in Romania, the woman was engaged in this behavior to annoy her husband. What she succeeded in doing was to annoy the neighbors. Usually, a woman running naked and yelling might arouse suspicion, but in this instance, the neighbors told police they weren't upset at the nudity. It was the woman's atrocious singing voice that was most irritating.
"When we pointed out to her neighbors that we could do nothing about the terrible singing, but that the nudity was an offense, they decided to complain about that instead," a police spokesman said.
Nobody took pity on her. In fact, men rather enjoyed the spectacle.
"It was only women that complained," continued the spokesman. "This woman has a good figure and I think the feeling among most men was that it brightened the place up."
The woman was arrested and identified as Maria Muresan. A Romanian court ordered her to perform 20 days of community service in Cluj, Transylvania.
"I didn't care, but my wife was not too happy," said Emil Haaz, a local neighbor. "She was annoyed that I had bumped into the woman in the lift. It wasn't my fault she decided to use it at the same time."
