Liberals stole my Oscar!

If Hollywood wasn't so liberal, Dinesh D'Souza says, he would have gotten the Oscar nomination he knows he deserves.

D'Souza's wildly anti-Obama film "2016: Obama's America" was snubbed this week when the Academy left it off of the list of 15 documentaries that will advance in the award ceremony's voting.

"I want to thank the Academy for not nominating our film,” D’Souza said. "By ignoring '2016,' the top-performing box-office hit of 2012, and pretending that films like 'Searching for Sugar Man' and 'This Is Not a Film' are more deserving of an Oscar, our friends in Hollywood have removed any doubt average Americans may have had that liberal political ideology, not excellence, is the true standard of what receives awards."

The film's producer, Gerald Molen, who also won an Oscar for producing "Schindler's List," agreed: "Dinesh warned me this might happen," he told the Hollywood Reporter. "The action confirms my opinion that the bias against anything from a conservative point of view is dead on arrival in Hollywood circles. The film’s outstanding success means that America went to see the documentary in spite of how Hollywood feels about it."

Dinesh D’Souza faces tough questions over personal life

Dinesh D'Souza is facing some tough questions from his fellow Christians over a night spent in a hotel room with a woman he introduced as a his fiancée - despite still having a wife.

The Evangelical magazine World reports that last month, D'Souza appeared at First Baptist North in Spartanburg, S.C. for a speech:

"D’Souza’s speech earned him a standing ovation and a long line at the book-signing table immediately afterward. Although D’Souza has been married for 20 years to his wife, Dixie, in South Carolina he was with a young woman, Denise Odie Joseph II, and introduced her to at least three people as his fiancée.

Finally, near 11 p.m., event organizer Tony Beam escorted D’Souza and Joseph to the nearby Comfort Suites. Beam noted that they checked in together and were apparently sharing a room for the night in the sold-out hotel. The next morning, around 6 a.m., Beam arrived back at the hotel and called up to D’Souza’s room. 'We’ll be down in 10 minutes,' D’Souza told Beam. D’Souza and Joseph came down together, and Beam took them to the airport."

Somebody in Dinesh D’Souza’s shaggy, piecemeal right-wing screed “2016: Obama’s America” definitely has a problem with post-colonial theory and the conflicted ideologies of third-world intellectuals. But I don’t think it’s Barack Obama. A blend of genuinely fascinating observations and shrill, repetitious character assassination, “2016” is the surprise hit documentary of late summer, hypothetically lifting the spirits of true-hearted Americans as they battle to thwart the dastardly schemes of ... well, the middle-of-the-road, drone-happy politician who has occupied the White House for the last four years, apparently without showing his true colors.

Surprising almost everyone, the eighth highest-grossing film this past weekend was Dinesh D'Souza's "2016: Obama's America," a documentary in which the conservative author travels the world to find the sources of the president's supposed anti-American, anti-capitalist radicalism. This was surprising for two reasons. One is that it beat out seemingly solid studio releases like "Premium Rush" and "The Apparition," even though "Obama's America" was only playing in around a thousand theaters ("The Bourne Legacy" is playing in three times that) and was in its seventh week of release. Many accounts compared it to the success Michael Moore saw with "Fahrenheit 9/11" in 2004.
