America's favorite political beefcake Arnold Schwarzenegger may have singlehandedly topped the year's best/worst movie news, confirming to fans that he'll be returning to the big screen as Terminator in "Terminator 5."

He told the fan site The Arnold Fans.com that filming will begin in 2014:

"I'm very happy that the studios want me to be in Terminator 5 and to star AS the Terminator, which we start shooting in January," says the former Governator. "I'm also going to do King Conan - to play that role and also to do another Twins movie. So I feel very proud of that.
I dreamt that the action star went into politics, and then staged a movie comeback at age 65. Silly, I know

So I just saw the latest Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, “The Last Stand,” in which the 65-year-old one-time bodybuilding champ tries to stage yet another messy, jokey, meta-style comeback. This is a role very much in the mode of Clint Eastwood or Sylvester Stallone – in fact, I kept thinking that Eastwood must have made this film, sometime around 1997 – with Schwarzenegger playing a small-town Arizona sheriff forced to go mano a mano, under exceptionally unlikely circumstances, with an escaped Mexican drug lord. It’s one of those mixed-up Hollywood pictures that has too much going on: It tries to protect the action-hero status of its visibly enfeebled star and it has Johnny Knoxville of “Jackass” in a moronic supporting role and the story doesn’t make any sense and it’s the American debut of whiz-kid Korean action filmmaker Kim Jee-woon (for you film-festival geeks, he made “I Saw the Devil” and “The Good, the Bad, the Weird”).

The Washington Post writer's attack on Hillary Clinton over Benghazi reveals what a retrograde shill she really is

Secretary Hillary Clinton took responsibility for the situation in Benghazi on Monday, noting to the press that the “president and the vice-president wouldn't be knowledgeable about specific decisions that are made by security professionals.” There are a number of appropriate reactions to this statement. One could assume it’s a bit of politicking during election season, an attempt to take the heat off the president and help his re-election bid. One could see it as a diplomatic move, aimed at quelling tensions in the Middle East. One could take it at face value. Or, one could lose her ever-loving mind and accuse Clinton of betraying feminism.

The last option was the one chosen by WaPo's Jennifer Rubin, whose writing has become synonymous with “mindless partisan bleating.” Rubin responded to Clinton on Twitter with some creative uses of punctuation:

Dissatisfaction with Obama is understandable, but it shouldn't prevent one from voting. An open letter to Democrats

Dear Allies,

Forgive me if I briefly take my eyes off the prize to brush away some flies, but the buzzing has gone on for some time. I have a grand goal, and that is to counter the Republican right with its deep desire to annihilate everything I love and to move toward far more radical goals than the Democrats ever truly support. In the course of pursuing that, however, I’ve come up against the habits of my presumed allies again and again.

O rancid sector of the far left, please stop your grousing! Compared to you, Eeyore sounds like a Teletubby. If I gave you a pony, you would not only be furious that not everyone has a pony, but you would pick on the pony for not being radical enough until it wept big, sad, hot pony tears. Because what we’re talking about here is not an analysis, a strategy, or a cosmology, but an attitude, and one that is poisoning us. Not just me, but you, us, and our possibilities.

Leftists Explain Things to Me

The poison often emerges around electoral politics. Look, Obama does bad things and I deplore them, though not with a lot of fuss, since they’re hardly a surprise. He sometimes also does not-bad things, and I sometimes mention them in passing, and mentioning them does not negate the reality of the bad things.

Arnold launches the USC Schwarzenegger Institute for State and Global Policy

LOS ANGELES (AP) — He's been a governor, a movie star and the world's greatest body builder, but Arnold Schwarzenegger isn't done yet.

The man who never tires of telling people he'll be back returned again Monday, this time as a global policy wonk and statesman dedicated to leading America into what he calls a new post-partisan era.

Schwarzenegger, in a dark suit, crisp white shirt and red tie, appeared at the University of Southern California to officially launch the USC Schwarzenegger Institute for State and Global Policy with a symposium featuring some of the most notable names in politics and entertainment.

For the former Republican governor, the symposium marked a sudden public re-emergence after leaving office nearly two years ago with a mixed record that he suggested Monday accomplished about half of what he had set out to do.

He's hoping that through the institute, created with a $20 million commitment from Schwarzenegger and others, he can accomplish the rest, tackling issues such as hunger, health care and global warming.

He'll also take an active role in teaching at USC. The institute's academic director, Nancy Staudt, referred to him several times as Professor Schwarzenegger.

Can the former governor's new think tank get state and local governments to do what the federal government can't?

The administration of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger often resembled an ambitious global think tank that was affiliated with a gym. In the long days between his early morning and evening workouts, the governor tackled every thorny public policy issue by convening with experts from across the political spectrum, and the world. Then he and his diverse team of advisers -- from progressive environmentalists to conservative business lobbyists -- would synthesize centrist solutions that were unveiled at press conferences heavy on body-building metaphors.

This approach encapsulates what was so promising, and frustrating, about Schwarzenegger’s seven years as California governor. He had a knack for finding the pragmatic middle ground on difficult subjects. But at times, the breadth of his work and ambition made it hard for the administration to focus. That tendency, in combination with political polarization and the difficulties of governing California’s broken system, sometimes made it hard for him to turn his thinking into action.

Mildred Baena breaks her silence over her child with the former California governor in an interview with Hello!

The mother of Arnold Schwarzenegger's 13-year-old love child is breaking her silence this week in an interview with Hello! magazine. Mildred Baena worked as a housekeeper for the Schwarzeneggers when she had an affair with the former California governor.

Baena's son Joseph, photographed alongside his mother for the Hello! interview, apparently increasingly resembled the former action star as he grew up.

"It was as Joseph grew and I started to see the resemblance that I wondered -- but it became more apparent as time went on," said Baena, who said that Maria Shriver also seemed to recognize Joseph's similarity to her now estranged husband. Shriver, says Baena, was supportive and eventually asked the housekeeper point blank whether Schwarzenegger was Joseph's father.

And perhaps the most surprising aspect of the story: When Joseph learned his father's identity last year, he apparently said, "Cool!" (No doubt, we assume, because he is too young to have witnessed firsthand Schwarzenegger's acting career play out in "Kindergarten Cop" and "Twins.")

The Governator is putting Hollywood on hold. But how on earth was he a successful actor in the first place?

Few men have the luxury of leaving a career as an action movie star to become the governor of California. Even fewer get to leave office and go right back to becoming action stars. Arnold Schwarzenegger, it turns out, is not one of those men. The Austrian former bodybuilder and more recent impregnator has decided to postpone his plans to return to the big screen after all.

Mere weeks ago, Schwarzenegger was merrily promoting his new superhero comic and animated series, the inevitably named "Governator." It was an enterprise that even Stan Lee promised would be "using all the personal elements of Arnold’s life… his wife… his kids... the fact that he used to be governor." Aaaaaaaand… suddenly a story involving Schwarzenegger's wife and children just isn't such a hot idea more. The project has been iced.

One day it's a French diplomat, the next Arnold Schwarzenegger: Does their behavior really shock us?

When you live in the country, it’s hard to respect the male of the species -- any species. Apart from fighting, roosters think of nothing but hens. Brutus, the bull across the road, neglects his four-cow harem to bellow endearments to our cute young heifers.

Recently a miniature stallion showed up courting our mare Savannah. Half Thoroughbred, half Shire, she stands 18 hands and 1,500 pounds, the boss of bosses on our place. Her expectant lover couldn’t have weighed 250 soaking wet, which he was. These things only happen in bad weather.

Confronted by Savannah’s gelding brother, the tiny horse reared and bared his teeth in challenge. Hannibal ran him down like an 18-wheeler flattening an armadillo. By the time I got a rope and hauled the little guy to safety, all the fight was out of him.

The next day he challenged my neighbor’s quarter-horse stud through a barbed-wire fence. “You want a piece of me?” Redman might have killed him, but not before tearing himself to pieces. Ah, but one mare found the little fellow so appealing she lay on the ground trying to accommodate his desires.

Oprah Winfrey wiped away tears as celebrity after celebrity surprised her during a farewell double-episode taping of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" that will precede her finale.

"Thank you is not enough, but thank you," Winfrey told the crowd of 13,000 gathered at Chicago's United Center on Tuesday night for "Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular." "For your love and your support, thank you."

The crowd gave Winfrey a standing ovation when she first walked on the stage. Then the stars came out, with Winfrey's producers making good on their promise of the biggest celebrities of movies, music and television.

Aretha Franklin sang "Amazing Grace." Tom Hanks acted as host for the evening. Michael Jordan, who led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championships during the 1990s, told Winfrey she inspires him. Tom Cruise, famous for his couch jumping on Winfrey's show, was there. Jerry Seinfeld wore a tuxedo to give a comedy routine. And Madonna said she is among the millions of people who are inspired by Winfrey.

"She fights for things she believes in, even if it makes her unpopular," Madonna said.

Winfrey announced in November 2009 that she would end her popular talk show after 25 years. Tuesday's taping will air May 23 and 24, before Winfrey's final show on May 25.

The former governor's betrayal goes beyond infidelity. How will the pair move forward, with children in the mix?

A marital breakup tends to be a painfully grim time. But when there's a secret child, we're pretty much off the charts on the "things that can go wrong in a relationship" scale. So spare a measure of sympathy today for Maria Shriver and all of Arnold Schwarzenegger's progeny, because they both got surprise families this week.

A breach of fidelity is agonizing under any circumstances. But if you're Dean Sheremet and your wife just ran off with Eddie Cibrian, you can choose to never be in the same room with LeAnn Rimes again. If you're Shania Twain and your husband's been putting it to your assistant, it's more complicated -- you've got to figure out how to be decent, for the rest of your life, to the father of your son. But like the late Elizabeth Edwards, Maria Shriver, the woman who famously lobbied on behalf of her husband's trustworthiness after a slew of sexual bombshells eight years ago, is now dealing not just with her husband's stark public admission of philandering, but also with the fact that her four children have a new sibling.

A look at Schwarzenegger's public thoughts on life, love, sexual harassment and modesty

In light of today's big news, we took a look through Arnold Schwarzenegger's many memorable quotes through the years, in search of a deeper glimpse into his character.

On modesty: "I knew I was a winner. I knew I was destined for great things. People will say that kind of thinking is totally immodest. I agree. 'Modesty' is not a word that applies to me in any way." [Arnold: "The Education of a Bodybuilder," 1977]

On women's clothing: "I hate pants. This is something I have inherited from my father. He despised pants, and my mother was never allowed to wear them at home. We're talking about a different time period now, when the man was much more the ruler of the house. But I still feel that way, and neither my mother nor Maria is allowed to go out with me in pants." [Playboy, 1988]

On parenthood: "The parents are the single most important influence on a child, followed by education and the peer group. ... I see it firsthand in my family. If I am away on a film for three weeks, even though I come home every weekend, you can see the kids getting out of control. One person cannot create the discipline and the guidance and helping with homework. When I am at home, Maria and I drive the kids to school together; we pick them up together; we take them to dancing, soccer, horseback riding lessons. It takes a lot of effort. If you are not on top of the situation, the kids lose confidence in you." [Salon, 2001]

On his marriage to Maria Shriver: "We're the happiest couple in the world ... [Maria is] the greatest wife and greatest mother." ["The Michael Medved Show," during the California gubernatorial campaign]

On "sexual standards": "I have no sexual standards in my head that say this is good or this is bad. Homosexual -- that only means to me that he enjoys sex with a man and I enjoy sex with a woman. It's all legitimate to me." [Cosmopolitan, via Time]

On sexual harassment allegations (I): "I know the people of California can see through this trash politics. Let me tell you something ... A lot of those that you see in the stories is not true. But at the same time, I have to tell you that I always say, wherever there is smoke, there is fire." [Boston Globe, 2003]

On sexual harassment allegations (II): "I learned my lesson. I had several harassment lessons ... I know now what can be said and what can't be said ... Now I would not even tell someone I like their outfit. It could go south." [Vanity Fair, 2005]

On his wife: "This is what she fell in love with -- me. This is the way I am -- outrageous, out there. And it comes with things that are not all rosy." [Vanity Fair, 2005]

On the Kennedys: "I call the family clones. Everyone in the family thinks exactly the same. If her mother says it is green, it is green. If her father says it is black, it is black. When you are in the family, you think this is normal, and then you meet someone from the outside and the lights go on. Here was a guy who was free ... If he wants to be a Republican, he is a Republican. If he wants to be a movie star, he is a movie star." [Vanity Fair, 2005]

We'll add to this list as we find more quotes. Add your own suggestions in the comments section.

Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has acknowledged that he fathered a child with a member of his household staff, a revelation that apparently prompted wife Maria Shriver to leave the couple's home before they announced their separation last week.

Shriver separately issued a statement saying it was a "heartbreaking time," and one of their children, Patrick, expressed sadness and a yearning for normalcy in a Twitter message.

Schwarzenegger and Shriver jointly announced May 9 that they were splitting up after 25 years of marriage. Yet, Shriver moved out of the family's Brentwood mansion earlier in the year after Schwarzenegger acknowledged the child is his, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

"After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago," Schwarzenegger told the Times on Monday in a statement that was later sent to The Associated Press.
