Connecticut senators slam NRA’s Newtown robocalls

Following outrage from the Newtown community, two Connecticut senators decried NRA robocalls urging residents to oppose gun control legislation, just three months after the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

In a statement, Sens. Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal, both Democrats, slammed the "inappropriate automated phone calls pushing the National Rifle Association’s extreme agenda," and called on the NRA to stop the "incredibly insensitive" calls.

In a tweet, Rep. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., whose district encompasses Newtown, called NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre's press conference "revolting" and "tone deaf."

Other politicians reacted similarly to LaPierre's speech, which called for "armed police officers in every single school in this nation.”

"It is beyond belief that following the Newtown tragedy, the National Rifle Association’s leaders want to fill our communities with guns and arm more Americans, said Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., in a statement."The NRA points the finger of blame everywhere and anywhere it can, but they cannot escape the devastating effects of their reckless comments and irresponsible lobbying tactics."

McMahon campaign workers: Our checks bounced

Linda McMahon spent almost $100 million on two failed Senate bids -- but she's now having a spot of trouble paying her former campaign workers.

According to the local news station WTNH, several workers have complained about not being paid by the campaign after Election Day, but then when they did receive checks, they bounced.

“Checks have been mailed to campaign workers. Replacement checks were issued for those who did not want to wait for the mail,” McMahon's campaign spokeswoman, Kate Duffy, told WTNH. ”The original checks were then voided once replacement checks were issued.”
