Queens of the Stone Age announce new album

After almost six years, Queens of the Stone Age is releasing a full-length album in June, a follow-up to 2007's "Era Vulgaris." As previously reported, the album will feature guest spots from Trent Reznor and Elton John, and Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl has returned as the band's drummer.

The album, reportedly called "...Like Clockwork," sounds like it'll be highly experimental. From A.V. Club:

Apparently, "Foo Fighters" frontman Dave Grohl does not like the name of the band that he started in 1994. Speaking candidly onstage at the Austin Convention Center during SXSW on Thursday, the former Nirvana drummer admitted that "finding a good band name is still the hardest fucking part" of founding a band. "Foo Fighters is the stupidest fucking name," he said, according to NME.

That wasn't the only surprising personal insight Grohl dropped: He also admitted that Psy's viral sensation "Gangnam Style" "is one of my favorite songs of the past decade."

Paul McCartney to front Nirvana reunion

The Sun newspaper is reporting that Paul McCartney will replace Kurt Cobain and lead a Nirvana reunion this evening at the Hurricane Sandy benefit concert in New York.

It would be the first show that the surviving members of the pioneering alt-rock band in almost 20 years, since Cobain's 1994 suicide. They will reportedly debut a new song.

McCartney told the paper he called Grohl recently, and the Foo Fighters frontman invited him to “jam with some mates.”

According to the Sun:

Macca had suggested they “just make something up” and found himself playing with Grohl on drums, bassist Krist, 47, and unofficial fourth Nirvana member Pat Smear, 53.

He said: “I didn’t really know who they were. They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said ‘Whoa? You guys haven’t played together for all that time?

“And somebody whispered to me ‘That’s Nirvana. You’re Kurt.’ I couldn’t believe it.”
