"I'd like the truth to come out. I'd like to be reconsidered as a person," Knox told Sawyer. “What happened to me was surreal but it could’ve happened to anyone."

Knox made headlines in 2009 when she was first suspected -- later, convicted -- of the grisly murder of her roommate, Meredith Kercher, while the two were studying abroad in Italy. She was released from prison in 2011, but in March 2013, Italian courts overturned her acquittal.

“A Special Edition of 20/20: Murder. Mystery. Amanda Knox Speaks” airs on ABC at 10 p.m. ET Tuesday evening. The interview coincides with the release of her memoir, "Waiting to Be Heard."
