Papa John's John Schnatter isn't the only "job creator" putting his workers' salaries in jeopardy

Most of us have had a terrible boss or two in our day, but right now thousands of Americans find themselves with a very special kind of bad boss: one who uses Obama's election as an excuse to threaten to cut their hours, roll back their benefits, slash their wages or fire them outright. Much of this worker abuse centers on the new law that businesses with 50 or more employees must offer workers healthcare options by 2014. Jon Stewart noticed this recent post-election "trend" and issued a strong judgment:

Guys, I get it. Providing healthcare benefits to employees costs money, and as a group you tend to prefer things that do not cost that [money].... But own your layoffs and your policies. Let’s stop pretending that suddenly, with this election, bosses have been transformed into reluctant assholes. Obamacare is just the latest excuse to wriggle out of the social contract [that’s existed] for many years.

CEO John Schnatter insists that the Affordable Care Act necessitates price increases. Experts disagree

Papa John's Pizza seems to be gunning for Chick-fil-A's "most heartless fast-food chain" title after CEO John Schnatter threatened to increase pizza prices by 11 to 14 cents per pie and cut back employee hours if the Affordable Care Act isn't repealed. Schnatter has found support from more than 20,000 Facebook users (and counting), who have staged an "eat-in" to protest Obamacare and its effects on the food chain:

Papa Johns has been targeted by the left for a boycott, for simply articulating that ObamaCare would hurt profits and force cutbacks in employee hours. Stand up to this nonsensical and illogical action and support Papa Johns this Friday!

Forbes' Caleb Melby points out, however, that Schnatter's underlying logic doesn't make sense when you look at the numbers:

Football-tossing Republican CEO: Repeal Obamacare or pay an extra quarter for bad pizza

Sad news this week for all American Papa John's fans, from those too exhausted by daily drudging for subsistence wages to attempt to find something better to stick in their mouths at the end of the day than a dirt-cheap sugar and starch-delivery mechanism to those who are simply drunk when one of the commercials comes on: Unless we repeal Obamacare, Papa John's founder and mascot John "Papa John" Schnatter is going to raise the price of his wares.

He said as much in a conference call last week: "Our best estimate is that the Obamacare will cost 11 to 14 cents per pizza, or 15 to 20 cents per order from a corporate basis," Schnatter said, while robotically tossing a football and sort of cringing in an odd approximation of a casual smile.
