Duchess of Cambridge was being treated for acute morning sickness

LONDON (AP) -- The Duchess of Cambridge left a London hospital Thursday after being treated for acute morning sickness related to her pregnancy.

Clutching a small bouquet of yellow roses, the former Kate Middleton smiled and posed briefly for a photograph alongside her husband, Prince William, before leaving King Edward VII Hospital. She stepped delicately into a waiting car.

The couple's office said she would head to Kensington Palace in London for a period of rest. She had been in the hospital since Monday. Officials from St. James's Palace have said the duchess is not yet 12 weeks pregnant with the couple's first child.

William visited his wife at the hospital every day, while media from around the world camped outside, seeking any news on the royal pregnancy.

Royal officials announced Monday that the Duchess was pregnant, their hand forced by her admission into the hospital.

But the stay of one of the world's most recognized women was complicated by a breach of her privacy.

Two Australian radio disc jockeys impersonating Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles placed a prank call to the hospital early Tuesday, and persuaded an unwitting nurse to tell them all about the Duchess' condition.

A nurse caring for the Duchess of Cambridge unwittingly released private information to Sydney's 2DayFM

The King Edward VII hospital in London has confirmed that a Sydney radio station pranked a nurse monitoring the Duchess of Cambridge, who is currently being hospitalized for acute morning sickness.

Mel Greig and Michael Christian of 2DayFM assumed the identities of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles, and were put through to Middleton's nurse, initiating "the easiest prank call ever made." She eagerly updated the co-hosts, saying Middleton was "quite stable at the moment. "She hasn't had any retching with me and she's been sleeping on and off," she said. Greig and Christian played a tape of barking Corgis in the background, for dramatic effect.

Hospital chief executive John Lofthouse said of the incident,"This was a foolish prank call that we all deplore. We take patient confidentiality extremely seriously and we are now reviewing our telephone protocols."

The Duchess of Cambridge is being treated for acute morning sickness

LONDON (AP) — Prince William is visiting his pregnant wife Kate in a London hospital, where she is spending a second day being treated for acute morning sickness.

William arrived at the King Edward VII private hospital just before noon.

Royal officials announced Monday that Kate is pregnant and suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness that can lead to dehydration or worse if left untreated. She is expected to remain hospitalized for several days.

The pregnancy comes after a 2011 decision by the leaders of Britain and 15 Commonwealth nations endorsing new rules that give girls equal status with boys in the order of succession.

Experts caution that laws to enact the change have not yet been passed, which could cause uncertainty if the baby is a girl.

UPDATED: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting a baby. Now with slideshow

It's been a wild year for the Royal couple: After surviving two separate scandals and a tour of Southeast Asia, St. James' Palace today announced that Prince William and Kate Middleton are, indeed, expecting their first child. The AP reports that Middleton's pregnancy is in its "very early stages," and that the 30-year-old is currently being hospitalized for severe morning sickness.

The baby will be Queen Elizabeth II's third great-grandchild and, behind William, next in line to the throne.

Get ready for the media speculation on baby names, gender and first outfit. Expect <del>many, many, many</del> none (OK, maybe some) of those updates here.

Because her pregnancy is so early on, Middleton has little to no bump to show off for the paparazzi. In that way, it's a lot like the earlier phases of her time in public life. Here's a slideshow of Middleton not showing:
[slide_show id=13113470]
