During a meeting of Florida's cabinet, Rick Scott thought he was giving out the number for a meningitis hotline, meant to be a response to a recent outbreak in the state, but he was actually giving out the number for an "adult" hotline.

The incorrect number was also posted on the Florida Department of Health website.

From the Broward Palm Beach New-Times:

"The screw-up was first noticed by an alert reader who notified public radio WUSF, who then called the governor's office. The Florida Department of Health quickly corrected the mistake and posted the right number.

But for a while there, anyone who wanted to get pertinent information about the meningitis outbreak got an automated message that said 'Hello, boys; thank you for calling me on my anniversary' and then directed them to a menu of naughty options."

Scott is in good company: During his own term as governor, Charlie Crist's office accidentally posted a number that directed parents to "hot, horny girls" instead of the Florida KidCare hotline. Tim Pawlenty has also made the same mistake.

Tim Pawlenty ditches Romney's campaign -- sending poli-Tweeters into overdrive. But the real story is his new job

It seems like a lifetime ago, but at one point, Tim Pawlenty, the former governor of Minnesota, seemed to have a decent shot at becoming president. In a field of loons and crazies, Pawlenty's biggest drawback was merely his extraordinary blandness.

But then came the disastrous third-place finish at the Iowa straw poll, and Pawlenty promptly quit the race. It's hard to blame him -- nothing says "loser" quite as much as getting thumped by Michele Bachmann. Not to worry, though, as he emerged not long afterward as a co-chairman of Mitt Romney's campaign, with a potential chance of becoming the vice-presidential nominee or at least getting a juicy Cabinet position.

One thing we know about Tim Pawlenty: He is not afraid to quit! Today, the Financial Services Roundtable, Wall Street's deepest pocketed and most influential lobbying organization, announced that Pawlenty is leaving Romney's campaign to become its new leader, replacing longtime head Steve Bartlett. See ya later, Romney!

Rumor-driven running-mate speculation: The dumbest form of campaign coverage

Remember how last week the next vice president was going to be former Secretary of State and famous Iraq War pusher Condoleezza Rice? This was because Matt Drudge, a Miami oddball who runs an unattractive news aggregator, put a big picture of her on his website, along with some text about how she gave a speech so good that Mitt Romney decided to make her his running mate. This was also something that Bill Kristol had just predicted, so basically everyone knew it wasn't ever going to happen.

Now the running mate is supposedly going to be former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (again!), I guess, again according to freak weather enthusiast Matt Drudge, who linked to a New York Times story that said Romney made his decision and basically strongly suggested that it's Pawlenty.

Mitt Romney is rumored to be considering as his V.P. the former rival who may be more boring than he is

Politico reporters Maggie Haberman and Alex Burns are apparently pretty depressed at how shallow and inane this 2012 presidential campaign is turning out to be, so I hope they don't read this article by their esteemed colleague Mike Allen, Politico's mascot and the undisputed king of pointless minutiae, who today has a real "scooplet": Mitt Romney might pick Tim Pawlenty as his running mate. Or, in "POLITICO"-speak, "Tim Pawlenty's stock soars in Romney-world." (Candidates have worlds and stock, yes.)

According to Allen and Politico co-founder Jim VandeHei, Tim Pawlenty is definitely going to be the running mate unless the prior conventional wisdom turns out to have been correct and it's still Rob Portman. (It's probably still Rob Portman.) Romney's "team" loves that Pawlenty is ... a guy, who doesn't have anything specifically wrong with him. This is also why various pundits thought he was the "dark horse" candidate for the nomination, until it turned out that no one, anywhere, could come up with any reason to vote for Tim Pawlenty. He was also almost John McCain's running mate in 2008, but John McCain wanted to pick someone more interesting.

What Tim Pawlenty's endorsement of Mitt Romney means, and why he might be misguided

Thrilling campaign update: Loser Tim Pawlenty, a former candidate who never actually had very much support from anyone, has made his endorsement! He is going for Mitt Romney. And I'm sure the voters who supported Pawlenty will fall in line, besides the ones who only supported Pawlenty because he was supposed to be the non-Romney candidate with the best shot at winning. Pawlenty says he is supporting Romney because of Romney's record and his positions, but in his Fox and Friends appearance this morning, Pawlenty gave away the real reason:

“Gov.
Suddenly, all of the pressure is on the two candidates from Minnesota. No wonder it's getting ugly

The bickering between the two Minnesota Republicans running for president, former Gov. Tim Pawlenty and Rep. Michele Bachmann, is getting pretty loud and angry. But it’s not surprising. It reflects their different roles in the GOP, and the white-knuckle pressure they both face as the 2012 contest moves toward its first real test in Iowa.

Pawlenty has made his "executive experience" and "results" as governor a centerpiece of his campaign, complemented by his eager adoption of harsh Tea Party stances that seem less than perfectly authentic coming from this mild-mannered Minnesotan. But recently, subthemes critical to his two most prominent rivals have been creeping into his self-laudatory discourse:

"We got one leading candidate in this race who's running away from his record. We got another leading candidate in this race who has no record. I'm running on my record. That's a big difference," Pawlenty said.

He continued: "Well I think when you want to think about making somebody president you want to know some things. You want to know what have they done, not just by flapping their jaw or giving speeches or offering failed amendments in Congress. What have they really done? What results have they achieved?"

The most pointless candidate in the race tries yet again to introduce himself

Tim Pawlenty, a semi-anonymous former governor of one of the middle states, is still sitting around, unnoticed, toward the bottom of the pack in the 2012 polls. This election is right around the corner, and Pawlenty, who's been campaigning for years, has made less headway than Rick Perry, who is not actually running. So Tim's making a big Iowa media buy, well before any of his opponents.

Pawlenty is going up with ads in the first-in-the-nation caucus state starting tomorrow on Fox News with a buy just under $50,000 in the Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Omaha, Ottumwa, Rochester, and Sioux City media markets. The ads will run from June 23rd to July 3rd.

The ads won't help the essential problem: There's no reason to support Pawlenty over anyone else. The press loves Huntsman, the Tea Party freaks love Bachmann, the old school Tea Party freaks love Ron Paul, and the majority of voters actually polled tend to prefer Mitt Romney, the competent-seeming rich person they have all heard of.

But Tim Pawlenty ads will probably be pretty funny, so I welcome this development.

Three targets hit, viral YouTube videos and a Twitter hashtag -- glitter-bombing politicians with anti-LGBT agendas is officially a trend. Nick Espinosa, a 24-year-old activist from Minnesota, sparked the latest tactic among LGBT activists when he invited Newt Gingrich to "Feel the rainbow!" at a Minnesota family values event and showered the presidential candidate in multicolored sparkles. This was followed by a glitter attack orchestrated by women's peace group Code Pink on Tim Pawlenty. Then, on Saturday, Michele Bachmann was struck by the Glitterati (#glitterati is the hashtag for these actions now).

"It's safe, it's fun and it brings attention to big issues," Espinosa told Salon, explaining that he finds influences in direct action groups like the Yes Men, who target big corporations and political leaders with elaborate, politically driven pranks.

This is an exercise we've gone through before, but as long as Republicans running for President continue to repeat it, we will continue to shoot it down.

On Monday, Slate's Dave Weigel captured Pawlenty's most recent obeisance at the altar of Ronald Reagan.

"When Ronald Reagan cut taxes in a significant way," said Pawlenty, "revenues actually increased by almost 100 percent during his eight years as president. So this idea that significant, big tax cuts necessarily result in lower revenues -- history does not [bear] that out."

The reason why the U.S. will never grow as fast as the Chinese economy is simple: We're already rich

Tim Pawlenty has gotten a lot of grief for his claim that a combination of tax cuts, spending cuts and reductions in regulation will spur U.S. economic growth to a decade's worth of 5 percent GDP growth. During Monday's Republican presidential candidate debate, CNN's John King pressed the former Minnesota governor for some more details:

CNN's John King: Governor Pawlenty, answer the critics ... who say 5 percent every year is just unrealistic ...

Pawlenty: [T]his idea that we can't have 5 percent growth in America is hogwash. It's a defeatist attitude. If China can have 5 percent growth and Brazil can have 5 percent growth, then the United States of America can have 5 percent growth.

My colleague Joan Walsh memorably zinged this argument in her debate wrapup by noting that the difference between China and the United States is that "they're building a middle class, not taking it apart, the way we are."

But the problems with Pawlenty's comparison go even deeper.

Republican presidential hopeful Tim Pawlenty is denying he softened his criticism of former Gov. Mitt Romney's health care policies in a nationally broadcast debate.

The former Minnesota governor tells CBS's "The Early Show" that he kept up his attack on the Romney health care program for Massachusetts in the debate among seven Republicans competing for the party's presidential nomination. On Sunday, Pawlenty had likened Romney's health care to the one pushed through by President Barack Obama, calling it "Obamneycare."

On Tuesday, Pawlenty said he didn't try to soft-pedal the issue in debate.
Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich join the pack, and they should both expect some abuse

Tonight, most of the Republicans currently running for president (besides Gary Johnson) will meet for a debate in New Hampshire. Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann and Newt Gingrich will be making their 2012 debate debuts, alongside returning favorites Tim Pawlenty, Herman Cain, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul. It should be hilarious or alarming or both. Here's what to expect.

Everyone will gang up on Mitt Romney

Mitt Romney is the closest thing this race has to a front-runner, and the best way for everyone else to get some attention is to attack him. And he's easy to attack! He invented Obamacare, used to be pro-choice, and recently acted very proud of himself for still believing in climate change. He's also terribly unctuous and phony.

At the Fox South Carolina debate, the candidates were basically instructed to attack the absent Romney. His presence probably won't discourage anyone from going after him again.

Everyone will announce their plan to gut Medicare

Our hats go off this morning to New York magazine's Dan Amira for a catch of Biblical proportions: God, he notices, seems to be backing multiple GOP candidates for 2012. Hermain Cain, Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum all claim to have got the nod from the big guy upstairs to run for president. As Amira notes:

Over the course of the past few months and even years, God has sent signs and direct messages to each of these candidates encouraging them to run, presumably without telling them that he supports other candidates as well.

God may have further hedged his bets too. According to BuzzFlash, "Tim Pawlenty's 28-year-old wunderkind of a campaign manager, acknowledged that before he joined Team Pawlenty, he "prayed deeply" over his future path. Ayers concluded that God had "called" him "to a higher purpose," and that higher purpose is leading Pawlenty to victory in November 2012.

Meanwhile, God reportedly made it very clear that he didn't want Mike Huckabee to be president, "lest he take his focus off the much more important task of producing a series of conservative American history DVDs," reports Amira.
