The White House released this Vine of President Obama at this year's White House Science Fair, with the President riding a stationary bike designed to use pedal power to fuel a water filtration system.

David Cross comedy “It’s a Disaster” to premiere on Vine at “4:30-ish” EST

"It's a Disaster," a dark comedy directed by Todd Berger starring David Cross, Julia Stiles and America Ferrara, will have the dubious honor of being the first feature film to appear on Vine, the new Twitter-integrated app that loops 6-second videos. According to a rep for distributor Oscilloscope Pictures, it's a "tongue in cheek" experiment.

An amusingly self-aware press release joked about the bizarre stunt:

Todd Berger commented, "Jean-Luc Godard once said that he pities French cinema because it has no money and American cinema because it has no ideas. Well this is certainly an idea."

Never one to shy away from the unknown, Oscilloscope is currently working on distributing films in all media and by all means and methods now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity. The future is now. We will also be actively acquiring distribution rights for the previously unexploited territory of The Moon.

Vine: The future of sex?

As Twitter's new video-sharing app battles the inevitable proliferation of porn, I can't help wondering what Vine could mean for the future of sexting and amateur smut. (I mean, aside from the prospect of an annoying new portmanteau to describe the act of digitally sharing naked media.) This question is admittedly a bit premature -- Vine, which limits clips to six seconds, doesn't offer a way to privately and directly share videos -- but it's easy to imagine such a development, if not on the part of the app's makers than by some enterprising tech vulture. And while the app has begun blocking searches for terms like "sex" and "NSFW," presumably to avoid violating Apple's puritanical standards, loads of X-rated material is still available; it's just harder to find. (One must know which accounts to follow, or get creative with keyword and username searches.) There's already at least one independent NSFW site compiling naughty vines, and the app's only been around for a few days.
