Palin writing book about the “War on Christmas”

Just in time for the holidays, Sarah Palin will release a book defending Christmas from the "politically correct Scrooges" who are waging the
"War on Christmas."

The book, called "A Happy Holiday IS a Merry Christmas," will be released through HarperCollins in November.

"Amidst the fragility of this politically correct era, it is imperative that we stand up for our beliefs before the element of faith in a glorious and traditional holiday like Christmas is marginalized and ignored," Palin said in a statement released through HarperCollins, the Associated Press reports. "This will be a fun, festive, thought provoking book, which will encourage all to see what is possible when we unite in defense of our faith and ignore the politically correct Scrooges who would rather take Christ out of Christmas."

According to the publisher, the book will also push for "preserving Jesus Christ in Christmas - whether in public displays, school concerts (or) pageants."

The Times Square billboard is not shy about its war on Christmas: "Keep the merry, dump the myth," it reads, juxtaposing an image of jolly St. Nick with one of Christ's agony on the cross. Sponsored by Cranford, N.J.-based American Atheists, the sign is funded in significant part by small-town nonbelievers nationwide.

"In New Jersey and the New York area, you don't have as much of a feeling of oppression. We have a very diverse population," says American Atheists managing director Amanda Knief, explaining the group's backing in rural and small-town America. She points out that their 2010 national convention in Newark, which included an Easter Sunday trip to the American Museum of Natural History, attracted few local participants. By contrast, the 2011 850-person Des Moines gathering drew more than half of its attendees from inside the state. "It was the first opportunity in Iowa for people who were non-religious to come together. And it was the first time where it was safe to do so."

Don Imus: “There’s no ‘war on Christmas’ … It’s absurd”

Conservative radio host Don Imus dismissed the War on Christmas to Stuart Varney on "Imus in the Morning" on Fox Business, saying that "it's absurd." He added: "I don't care. I think it's fine. It just doesn't mean anything."

Imus was railing against trumped-up outrages, particularly the War on Christmas, and told Varney: "The uproar, this War on Christmas. There's no War on Christmas, I mean it's absurd."

Varney objected, saying that twice when he gave money to Salvation Army bell ringers, they told him "Happy Holidays." Imus shot back: "Can't we as Christians, though, be all-inclusive, and wish happy holidays to our Jewish brethren."

The war on Christmas movies

So is there really a “war on Christmas” being waged by pinko, lefty, pro-choice, sexually bewildered heathens, as Bill O’Reilly proclaims around this time every year? Well, I don’t know about that, but there’s definitely a war on Christmas movies in that nobody seems capable of making good ones and the list of unwatchably crappy ones grows longer every year. Admittedly, it’s hard for any movie of any kind to be more painful than Tim Allen’s “Santa Clause” series. (There are three of them. Three!) But then, you probably haven’t seen either the 1977 remake of “It’s a Wonderful Life” starring Marlo Thomas or whatever the “Christmas Carol” knockoff from the '90s was called in which Vanessa Williams played Ebony Scrooge.

Bill O’Reilly agrees: Roots of the War on Christmas are gay rights and abortion

Bill O'Reilly agreed with "Imus in the Morning" producer Bernard McGuirk last night that the "roots" of the War on Christmas are not just atheists, but also "abortion and the gay rights agenda, because Christianity is against those things."

MCGUIRK: The war on Christmas is very, very real, and if you ask me, in addition to some grouchy misanthropic heathen atheists it has to do — at the root of it — it has to do with two things — abortion and the gay rights agenda, because Christianity is against those things. It’s subtle but that’s why it’s so pronounced in recent years, in my opinion.

O’REILLY: Hundred percent agree. I absolutely agree 100 percent that it's the diminishment of Christianity is the target and Christmas is the vehicle because the secularists know the opposition to their agenda -- legalized drugs is in there as well -- comes primarily from the Judeo-Christian traditionalist people.

Last night, Jon Stewart played a little game of "Make Fox News Mad Libs" to try to predict Fox News' outrage over the so-called "War on Christmas." Because, Jon said, despite what Fox News may say, "the rest of us can't swing a dead elf without knocking over an inflatable snow globe or a giant blinking candy cane. For God sakes, Fox News itself is located in midtown Manhattan, the epicenter of all that is godless, secular, gay, Jewy and hellbound, and yet even here, all around your studio, it looks like Santa's balls exploded."
