According to Reuters, 176 odor patrollers have been dispatched in the port city to sniff around and record what they smell. The volunteer noses are from French air analysis firm Airmaraix and have been instructed to identify and report the scents of Marseille -- everything from the "pleasant" to the "nauseating." It's all part of the city's crackdown on "smell pollution." Those who are guilty of emitting nose-wrinkling scents such as rotten egg, burned plastic, stale cigarette and plain ol' garbage may be required to change their rank ways -- or else. Said one odor cop, "Establishing that it stinks is all very well, but putting remedies in place would be even better."
