Jun 8th, 2009 | ROSLYN, Wash. -- Washington junior Nick Taylor has qualified for the U.S. Open for the second consecutive year, taking medalist honors during sectional qualifying.
Taylor grabbed one of two spots available Monday during competition at Tumble Creek at Suncadia in the Cascade Mountains east of Seattle, shooting 6 under for the two rounds to win the sectional by two shots.
Taylor shot a 5-under 66 in the first round. He birdied his first four holes and made 12 birdies over his 36 holes.
Last year, Taylor won sectional qualifying in Creswell, Ore., but failed to make the cut at the Open.
The other qualifying spot went to Andrew Parr, who competes on the Canadian Tour. Parr shot an even-par 71 in the first round, but rallied with four birdies on the final nine holes to earn a qualifying spot. Parr finished 4 under for the two rounds.
