1 man dead at bull run in Pamplona

Organizers of Pamplona's running of the bulls say a man has been gored to death -- the first such fatality since 1995.

The San Fermin festival Web site says the unidentified man was gored in the neck and lung during a run Friday that was messy and dangerous because of a rogue bull that separated from the pack.

Hospital officials say three other people were also gored, and six others suffered bumps, bruises and other lesser injuries.

The last fatal goring at the running of the bulls claimed the life of 22-year-old American Matthew Tassio in 1995.

PAMPLONA, Spain (AP) -- At least four people were gored in a dangerous and messy chapter of the running of the bulls in Pamplona.

Spanish National Television said another six people were hospitalized with bumps and bruises after Friday's run, the fourth of eight at the San Fermin festival in the northern town.

It said one of the victims was in serious condition with a goring to the neck.

One of the six bulls became separated from the pack and started charging right and left, and even running back the wrong way. This went on for a minute and a half, which is a long time at San Fermin.

At one point the bull charged at a wooden barrier where runners were clinging for safety, picked one man up with its horns and flipped him into the air.
