Pictures she never showed me
My mother was raped at age 13. Our biweekly photo feature.
My mother passed away on December 10th, just five days short of her birthday. Cleaning out her house, I found photos she never showed me. This one of her as a child is the only one she smiled in. It was taken in 1920 in Miami with her sister Ella on the left. My mom was raped at age 13. I found two other photos, one from 1929, another from 1931. She doesn’t smile in either of them.
