It took four hours and several rounds of voting, but on Monday night the South Carolina Republican Party eventually voted to censure Mark Sanford, who's not only their state's governor, but a member of their party.
The vote was in some ways actually a victory for Sanford: The party could have voted to officially call for his resignation instead. (The best analogy may -- ironically, considering Sanford's stance back in the 90's -- be to the Senate's censure of then-President Clinton.)
22 party members voted for censure; 10 voted to call on Sanford to resign, and nine voted to support him.
