Republican Gov. Tom Corbett of Pennsylvania is out of a job, the AP project.

Democratic businessman Tom Wolfe will become the state's next governor. Wolf led Corbett by a healthy margin throughout the race, capitalizing on the unpopularity of Corbett's cuts to education and questions over his handling of the Penn State sex abuse case as attorney general.

Corbett governed Pennsylvania as a conservative, pushing right-wing priorities like abortion restrictions and voter ID legislation. His defeat may prove a silver lining in what many Democrats fear will be a bad night.
