We learned recently that Comedy Central reached out to Amy Schumer as a potential host to replace Jon Stewart on “The Daily Show,” and in an interview with Howard Stern on Tuesday, Schumer gave an even clearer picture of how the whole process unfolded, saying that she and Jon Stewart even sat down together — over pizza, no less! — to discuss the prospect.
“I hung with Jon Stewart a little bit,” she said. “We had a piece of pizza and talked about the possibility of me hosting.” (What kind of pizza was it, Amy? The fans want to know!)
After asking Stewart the pressing questions -- “I think I asked him if it was fun," Schumer recalled with a laugh -- she came to the conclusion that the gig wasn’t right for her. “If I heard that I was hosting The Daily Show, I would be like, ‘Give me a fucking break,'” she told Stern.
“I really thought about it but it just wasn't right for me... Just picturing being in the same building every day... I just pictured all of the fittings, like all of the blazers I would have to wear. And I was like, 'I don't want to do that.'" she explained, adding she has complete faith in host Trevor Noah, who will be "so much better at it than I could've ever been."
Still, she was deeply flattered by Comedy Central’s offer. "Them asking me like made me cry. That means so much to me that they believed in me like that."
Well folks, that’s it for today’s installment of Hypothetical Scenarios We Wish Had Come To Pass. Turn in next time, when we presumably examine Schumer's decision to turn town the "Bachelorette" gig (but seriously Amy, do it!)
