Ever since Mitt Romney lost to Barack Obama in 2012, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus has been making a point of cleaning up the GOP's image problem. Specifically, he's been trying to zap the notion that the party is mainly made up of “rich, out-of-touch white men who were alienating Latinos and women.” If that's still the case, Stewart said on Thursday's "Daily Show," then it's a little baffling to see that “the living embodiment of everything Republicans were trying to exorcise from their party,” Donald Trump, is currently leading the polls in 2015.

Stewart explained his main hang-up with the idea of someone like Trump --  "an abusive, Cheeto dust-faced elephant in the room" -- leading the pack: "This Trump guy is a rich, crazy, egotistical monster," Stewart said. "People like him are supposed to buy the candidates -- not be them.”

Just as Rachel Maddow discussed in a recent Seth Meyers appearance, this is a pretty sucky position to be in if you're any of the other candidates getting overshadowed by Trump's "celeb factor." John Kasich, the Governor of Ohio, likely won't make the cut for the first candidate debate (hosted by Fox News) and located in the town he presides over. Trump, however, is a lock.

“They’re going to look at the polls, and Roger Ailes is going to pick whoever he wants,” Stewart said. “Or at least, that’s what he told me in our secret meeting.”
