“Don’t push me!” Vermont Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders had to yell at Fox News' Jesse Watters as the lawmaker attempted to avoid a Fox News ambush in the halls of Congress.
Monday night's edition of "The O'Reilly Factor" featured a clip of a failed "Watters World" segment in which the roving reporter attempted to hound Sanders before being promptly shut down.
“I don’t do ambush interviews,” Sanders told Watters. “So if you want to talk to us, there’s my press secretary.”
“Well, I do do ambush interviews and I just had a question for you,” Watters snappily replied, asking Sanders if he thought he was too "big-time" for the show. "O'Reilly is upset because you haven't done the show," Watters insisted. Sanders sat for an O'Reilly interview as recently as this past May.
Watters then appeared to knock the senator with his microphone. “Don’t push me," Sanders warned, "I didn’t get rough, you pushed me.”
Watters continued undeterred, following Sanders down the hallway. Eventually, Sanders escaped onto an elevator but not before Watters pestered him with the concerns of his boss: "O'Reilly is a little concerned that if you become president you might seize his house."
O'Reilly and Watters later chuckled about the ambush in-studio. “But you know why he’s not coming on?" O'Reilly explained, "because he knows that some of his base doesn’t like us, so now he’s being a politician.”
"He thinks he's going to win," O'Reilly joked before emphasizing again, "he thinks."
