Michelle Obama: Melania Trump plagiarizing her speech "was tough"

But FLOTUS told Stephen Colbert she feels "no sympathy" for Clinton and Trump's respective spouses

"Late Show" host Stephen Colbert on Tuesday welcomed first lady Michelle Obama.

Asked if she has "any sympathy" for the Democratic and Republican presidential nominees' respective spouses — former President Bill Clinton and Melania Trump — "who have to go there and stand by the person running for president," the first lady quickly answered no.

"You have to be in it if you're in it. If you don't agree, you should've agreed before they ran," she explained. "If I didn't agree with what Barack was saying, I would not support his run. So I stand there proudly, and I hope they are too."

Obama gave a non-answer, however, when asked if she had any sympathy for Melania Trump, who evidently lifted parts of her Republican National Convention speech in July from Michelle's 2008 address to the Democratic convention.

"Yeah, that was tough," Obama said, prompting Colbert to move on.
