The nation is still in mourning after Adam Lanza opened fire on Sandy Hook Elementary School, killing 26 (20 of whom were children) before taking his own life. Lanza used a lightweight military-style rifle owned by his mother, a gun enthusiast, whom he shot dead before heading to the school on Friday.

Tapping into the nation's collective consciousness, celebrities quickly took to Twitter to express the immediate need for tighter legislation on guns:

Although politicians have failed to enact any substantive changes after mass shootings like Columbine, Aurora, Tuscon and Virginia Tech, media outlets have noted that this timeit's different. In his address last night, President Obama acknowledged the bruised nation and promised that change will come, saying, "These tragedies must end, and to end them we must change."
