Former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin took to her Facebook page on Tuesday to slam an unusual target: her successor as GOP veep nominee, Paul Ryan.

Writing in response to Ryan's newly unveiled budget, Palin described Ryan's plan as "a joke" because of its failure to balance the federal government's finances quickly enough. "The latest Ryan (R, Wisconsin) Budget is not an April Fool’s joke," Palin wrote. "But it really IS a joke because it is STILL not seeing the problem[.]"

Palin went on to argue that any plan that does not quickly balance the federal government's budget is unacceptable. According to the former half-term governor of Alaska, Ryan's plan fails this test because "it is STILL not seeing the problem; it STILL is not proposing reining in wasteful government overspending TODAY, instead of speculating years out that some future Congress and White House may possibly, hopefully, eh-who-knows, take responsibility for today’s budgetary selfishness and shortsightedness to do so."

"THIS is the definition of insanity," she continued.

Palin then recommended lawmakers rein in spending and stop letting Americans "shackle ourselves with massive debt – a good portion of which is held by foreign nations who don’t necessarily like us" by cutting "pork and kickbacks."

Responding to Palin's criticism on Wednesday, Ryan said his latest budget "cuts more spending than any other budget I’ve ever written" and recommended the influential conservative media personality "ought to take a look at the details" of his plan.
