"Folks, ... this is crazy," Rush Limbaugh said on the Friday edition of his successful radio talk show. "We're feminizing this game, and it's a man's game, and if we keep feminizing this game, we're going to ruin it; if we keep 'chickifying' this game, we're going to ruin it. It's going to become something that it was never intended to be."
Limbaugh's worry came in response to the growing demands for introspection being directed toward the NFL in the wake of the public release of video showing Ray Rice assaulting his partner. "So many men — executive in the league, and sports [media] — are in a race to see who can be the most politically correct, feminized guy," Limbaugh said. "It's comical."
As he continued his monologue, it became clear that it was CBS sports broadcaster James Brown, in particular, who'd annoyed Limbaugh with his "comical" attempt to be "the most politically correct." Before a Thursday night NFL game, Brown had delivered a short speech about masculinity, the NFL and how society often looks the other way when it comes to the crisis of widespread domestic violence. The speech was roundly praised; but Limbaugh, evidently, is not a fan.
"This is [during] a pre-game show," Limbaugh complained. "By the way, this followed 2o minutes of Norah O'Donnell from the sideline — she's with the CBS early morning news show — she's on the sideline talking about this domestic violence stuff and the Ravens and Ray Rice and the commissioner," he continued, trailing off due to the overwhelming outrage of having a female journalist on the sideline talking about the biggest sports story in the country during the pre-game show for a football game.
Having made his point, that talking about domestic violence is wussy and lame and should be cordoned-off from football with an impenetrable forcefield, Limbaugh then began to rant about how the "War on Women" was happening within the labor force of the NFL — a group, he said, not likely to vote Republican (because they're black, in case you didn't get it). "Who are these guys?" Limbaugh bellowed. "Think they're voting Republican? I kind of doubt it."
Limbaugh then began to complain that he shouldn't be criticized for turning the issue of domestic violence into a political football (sorry), because the Democrats did it first. You can listen to this masterful performance below, via Media Matters:
