One could identify a number of reasons for President Barack Obama to support a nuclear deal with Iran: the agreement currently in the works would curb the regime's nuclear program for a up to a decade; it would subject Iran's nuclear facilities to international inspections; and it would mark an historic diplomatic achievement. But renowned foreign policy wonk Erick Erickson, proprietor of RedState.com, sees another motive: The president's bid to secure a nuclear deal, Erickson says, is all about Obama's larger goal to "humble the arrogant crackers."
Filling in for Rush Limbaugh today, Erickson lauded Senate Republicans' letter to the Iranian leadership -- part of a bid to torpedo the multilateral negotiations -- while castigating the president for his handling of the issue.
"It is a sell-out of the American republic to the Iranian nut jobs allowing them to go on and build a nuclear bomb. Which essentially is what the president wants them to do. Why? Again … for those of you who’ve not heard me fill in for Rush before, I have my overarching theory to explain everything Barack Obama does. And his deal with Iran also fits into it. It is the single unifying theory of the Obama administration: Barack Obama believes that for the world to be more safe, the United States must be less safe," he asserted.
Erickson continued, "Barack Obama believes the United States of America is a destabilizing, arrogant force in the world. We need our comeuppance, and we need to be humbled. And so everything Barack Obama does domestically and in foreign policy is designed to humble the arrogant crackers who’ve always run the United States. The awful, evil, former colonialists who don’t recognize that their American imperialism and American hegemony was a bad thing for the world."
It wasn't supposed to be this way; Erickson promised his readers in May 2012 that Obama had just cost himself re-election by publicly backing the right of same-sex couples to marry.
