Bush-era EPA chief stuns Fox Business host with carbon regulation support

Fox Business host Stuart Varney was not expecting Bush-era EPA Administrator to respond this way

Host of Fox Business' Varney & Company Stuart Varney was blindsided when Bush-era EPA Administrator Christie Whitman actually supported the regulation of carbon emissions.

Varney began the interview by asking Whitman whether or not she would have imposed the same kinds of restrictions on carbon emissions as the EPA has under the Obama Administration. "I would have done a regulation on carbon, absolutely," she responded. "I do believe we need it regulated. I do believe we're seeing a lot of cost that is part of what we're facing with climate change. I do believe that there is anthropologic impact--that we humans have an impact on the climate. We didn't cause the change but we are exacerbating it."

Not to be outdone, Varney pushed back: "But does it make any difference? These carbon emissions that hurt that industry, and electricity prices go up, you think it's worth it?"

"Actually they don't have to but you're making assumptions that I think are wrong," Whitman interrupted. "Look, let's look back between 1980 and 2012. We saw a 67 percent decrease in pollution. We saw a better than 50 percent increase in our GDP. We saw a 28 or 27 percent increase in our population and a 36 percent increase in power demands. So you have more people using more power producing greater economy and less pollution because of regulations."

Okay, Whitman is our new hero. Watch the clip below:
