In the "Truth Serum" segment of "The O'Reilly Factor" Tuesday evening, host Bill O'Reilly attempted to fact-check GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump's claim that "thousands and thousands" of American Muslims in New Jersey celebrated as the Twin Towers fell, but he and guest Eric Shawn came up empty.
"There were not thousands celebrating in one place," Shawn said, "and there was no evidence of one large-scale demonstration," neither in New Jersey nor New York.
Shawn added that he spoke to former New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who said that there were about 12 people who were celebrating 9/11, but "we only know that because they were getting beat up." He also offered a New York Post story about three undocumented immigrants who were deported after they were found to be cheering on al Qaeda in the days after the attack.
"We tried, at Mr. Trump's request, to get video of any celebrations in New Jersey, but the stations say they don't have any video," O'Reilly said. "If they did, they would have aired it." Despite Trump's insistence that "they'll find something, they're going to find something," it seems as it "they" aren't going to find anything -- for the simple reason that there's nothing there to find.
But O'Reilly couldn't leave Trump flapping limply in the wind, so he closed the segment by arguing that the real estate tycoon "likely conflated voice-over of the Palestinians celebrating [9/11] with a local reporter saying, 'Hey, we've got some problems in Jersey.' Because that probably happened."
