Donald Trump's whining about Fox News host Megyn Kelly is a tired, months old feud that the blustery frontrunner decided to reignite ahead of Thursday's Fox News debate, but this time, instead of hedging and hesitating to forcefully back Kelly, Fox News has responded with equal parts derision and force, mocking the Donald for his latest temper tantrum.
"Megyn Kelly's really biased against me. She knows that, I know that, everybody knows that. Do you really think she can be fair at a debate?" Trump asked his supporters on Twitter and Instagram on Tuesday, threatening to walk away from the debate:
For its part, the conservative media giant quickly responded with Trump levels of snark.
"We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president — a nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings," a statement distributed to reporters by Fox News read.
And as for Megyn Kelly's role on Thursday, Fox News chief Roger Ailes is sticking by his primetime star. "Megyn Kelly is an excellent journalist, and the entire network stands behind her," Ailes said in a statement to The Washington Post. "She will absolutely be on the debate stage on Thursday night."
"Sooner or later Donald Trump, even if he's president, is going to have to learn that he doesn't get to pick the journalists -- we're very surprised he's willing to show that much fear about being questioned by Megyn Kelly," read another Fox News statement to CNN.
