The gun that George Zimmerman used to shoot dead Trayvon Martin will not be auctioned off after all, according to News 6 Reporter Mike DeForest:
The firearm was to have been auctioned off today. Zimmerman said he was "honored and humbled to announce the sale of an American Firearm Icon."
"The firearm for sale is the firearm that was used to defend my life and end the brutal attack from Trayvon Martin on 2/26/2012," he added.
Zimmerman also claimed the Smithsonian had expressed interest in the weapon, but in a statement released Tuesday, the institution said that it "has never expressed interest in collecting George Zimmerman’s firearm. The Smithsonian has no plans to ever collect or display this object in any of its museums."
