Salon Talks: Eve Ensler
On International Women’s Day, the Tony Award-winning creator of “The Vagina Monologues,” Eve Ensler, joined Salon’s Alli Joseph to talk about her new one-woman show “In the Body of the World.” The deeply personal show explores her physical and emotional journey with cancer and is based on her critically acclaimed memoir.
On "Salon Talks," Ensler, who won a Tony Award in 2011, spoke about how during her entire career she has been “very much obsessed with women’s bodies.” “The Vagina Monologues" is now in its twentieth year of annual, world-wide performance, in 48 languages and 140 countries. “My whole journey has been looking at how do women get back in their bodies,” Ensler said.
“When any kind of trauma is afflicted on us, and I think that could be the trauma of racism, that could be the trauma of being a refugee, that could be the trauma of being poor, our bodies become this place we can’t inhabit because they hold the betrayals, they hold the terror, they hold the memories.”
Watch the full episode above to hear Ensler talk about how she is handling the Trump administration and her call for people everywhere to “stay shocked.” Tune into SalonTV's live shows, "Salon Talks" and "Salon Stage", daily at noon ET / 9 a.m. PT and 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT, streaming live on Salon, Facebook and Periscope.
