Comedian Franchesca Ramsey

Franchesca Ramsey, the comedian, actress and now author, behind the viral YouTube video that began her career, “S**t White Girls Say to Black Girls,” joins “Salon Talks” to discuss her new book “Well, That Escalated Quickly: Memoirs and Mistakes of an Accidental Activist.” The YouTuber chronicles how her parody video on the racist encounters she had with white women in her community went instantly viral and turned her into an overnight celebrity—a hero to many and a super villain to others who disagreed with her comedic style.

“Everybody doesn’t need a response; every story doesn’t necessarily need my voice. So, I’m really trying to use my platform to uplift other people who something important or positive to say.” Franchesca, now host of the MTV web series “Decoded,” told Salon’s D Watkins. “We don’t need another hot take on Kanye personally so I can share what someone else has to say so I don’t have to center my voice and jump right in.”
