Get over 2017 with these reads
Sick of being let down by 2017? We are too, so we’ve compiled a list of the top 10 non-bummer reads of the year to offer some relief.
Salon’s Mary Elizabeth Williams and book publicist Angela Baggetta take us on a journey through fiction, non-fiction, food, travel and intergalactic discovery to provide a moment of peace, wonder and awe in an otherwise dismal existence with Donald Trump at the helm.
“I spent so much time this year reading and crying,” Williams said, posing the question to Baggetta, “Why do we maybe need to take a step back?”
“It’s important to remember that stories serve many purposes for us human beings,” Baggetta said. “They are here to illuminate and to help us think through hard issues and difficult times and reckon with those, but they’re also here to help us grow as people and to make us happy.”
Two of the books on Salon’s top 10 are Mohsin Hamid’s “Exit West” and Andy Weir’s “Artemis.” Watch the video to see them all.And tune into SalonTV's live shows, "Salon Talks" and "Salon Stage," daily at noon ET / 9 a.m. PT and 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT, streaming live on Salon, Facebook and Periscope.
