Why director Nicole Holofcener is resisting this simplistic label: Female director

Writer and director Nicole Holofcener, known for her unique filmmaking style and ability to portray flawed characters so well on the big screen, joined “Salon Talks” to discuss her Netflix movie “The Land of Steady Habits,” starring Ben Mendelsohn and Edie Falco. The film explores loneliness and loss in suburbia and is streaming now.

"I've created a lot of female characters and now a male character. I feel like they're just characters, just like I'm a director and not a 'female director,'" Holofcener told SalonTV's Mary Elizabeth Williams.
