Watch Salon’s Election Day Analysis: Will voters change the direction of Trump’s America?

What direction will the nation choose to take today? In a special Election Day edition of “Salon Talks,” SalonTV’s Amanda Marcotte and Dean Obeidallah break down the key themes and races at stake today. While Democrats are cautiously optimistic that they will win a majority in the House, Salon is keeping an eye on the tight Senate races and looking at the overall messages voters across America are sending President Trump at the polls. “Election Day is judgment day and I mean that sincerely. I think this is so much bigger than any election of my life,” Obeidallah said.

In the video conversation above, Marcotte and Obeidallah touch on:

Why Trump drifted from talking about the economy in the finals days leading up to Election Day:

Obeidallah: “He didn't go with the economy because he knows his base and it's not going to work for his base.”

How voter suppression at the polls affect turn out:

Marcotte: “The border patrol is having crowd control exercises on the border, which I think to a lot of people doesn't sound like much, but in El Paso, the city goes right up on the border. There's a huge, very dense neighborhood right there and it’s mostly Hispanic. They're going to see all these cops out there... they're scaring people out of voting.”

Why liberals have anxiety today:

Obeidallah: “I was blindly confident in 2016. I, just like everyone else, assumed Hillary was gonna win.”

If Nancy Pelosi should stay as the Democratic leader of the House:

Marcotte: “If they win, she's going to run for speakership... Pelosi's office is already quietly making moves to start massive investigations into Donald Trump.”
